Welcome to my brand (spankin’) new blog, Analogland! I have tried my hand at blogging in years past, but I never really stayed consistent with it. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it per se. I enjoyed it very much. However, I don’t think I knew exactly what I wanted it to be, at the time. Or perhaps, it was the hustle and bustle of my last job, and planning a wedding, that kept me from fully embracing it. The world may never know. What I do know is, I love making photographs. I love it very much! Yes, it is a hobby. Hobbies are good guys and gals! Hobbies are what keep us going. They come from a place that is pure. Pure enjoyment. Pure love for the craft, no matter the cost or time. They allow us to bask in our creativity. I have to be honest, it took me awhile to finally admit that my love for making photographs was indeed a hobby. I didn’t know why I was so scared of using that word. Maybe one day it will hit me, and I will be able to share what that feeling was with you all, but for now, it shall remain a mystery. The important thing is, I can admit it now. Admitting equals freedom people.
So why am I doing this?
Well, I’m so glad you asked!
There are several reasons why I started this particular blog. One of them is, I am a bit of a “sharer”. I love to share anything and everything that I have learned, that I believe will benefit others. I love to connect with people. I love it so much! I really enjoy the feeling of finding I have something (anything) in common with another individual. One beautiful thing about having a hobby is connecting with others who share a love for that particular hobby as well. My love for making photographs has given me so many opportunities to connect. I love shooting with film the most (hence the name “Analogland”)! If you are reading this and you haven’t tried shooting with film (well, since the digital world took over), I challenge you to try it again! I dare you! So many of you will fall in love with it - the click of the shutter, the development process, the grain, the light leaks, etc. I love collecting and shooting with film cameras, trying out different film stocks and playing “show and tell” with my work. I also love seeing and reading about the work of other film photographers too. Some of my favorite film photography websites inspired me to try out my own. I encourage all film lovers to check out Shoot it With Film and Indisposable Concept, those are my two favs! I get pretty excited when I see they posted something new. I absorb all of it like a sponge!
So what will I be posting on MY blog?
Some of it is a little up-in-the-air, but I know (for sure) that I will be posting about different film stocks I’ve tried out, posts about cameras I shot with, photo series’ that portray different narratives, ideas/inspiration and film photographers who inspire me. I will also do some cool giveaways, so stay tuned for that (because who doesn’t like free stuff)! I have some ideas for creating a bi-monthly zine, but I haven’t made a final decision on that yet. Most of all, I really want to get to know other film photographers, I want to connect with those who share this hobby with me. I want to meet you. I want to learn from you. I want your advice. I want to see and hear your stories!
So here’s to the world of film photography! Here’s to this new project that I’m excited to share! Here’s to hobbies in general! I am excited for what’s to come.
Until next time!
